Leaf Licker No. 1 is a freestanding sculpture depicting a muscular classical figure holding a large leaf — and tasting it, with full commitment. The figure stands amid a cluster of organic flowers in pale yellow and turquoise, the contrast between heroic form and absurd gesture entirely deliberate.
The work belongs to Teemu Salonen's ongoing sculptural practice, where classical references collide with deadpan humour and decorative excess. The same figure appears across several works in the series, each time caught in a new act of quiet transgression.
White, iridescent and luminous in finish, the sculpture reads differently from every angle — monumental from a distance, intimate and strange up close.
