Tofu is a freestanding sculptural vessel — vase in form, sculpture in intent. The body is irregular and alive, finished in iridescent white with a glass-like depth that shifts with the light. The rim erupts into an organic frill of pearl yellow and turquoise, raw and deliberate in equal measure. The word Tofu is inscribed across the body in looping golden script, as if the object has named itself.
The work belongs to Teemu Salonen's ongoing practice, where decorative tradition is pushed until it tips into something stranger. The vessel shape carries centuries of cultural weight — domestic, ceremonial, ornamental — and Tofu wears that history lightly, with a certain deadpan confidence.
