Kemu 1 is a sound work by Japanese artist Komugi Ando, presented at Limited Time Gallery as part of an online exhibition experience.
The work originates from a live performance previously presented through Äänen Lumo in Helsinki and Ars Weikkola 2025. In this context, it is recontextualized as a curated listening experience — sound as both sculptural and atmospheric presence.
Ando's practice spans sculpture, painting, installation and sound, exploring perception, memory, space and the subtle relationships between sound, image and physical form.
A new body of work incorporating sound will be presented in Ando's upcoming exhibition at Gallery Sculptor in Helsinki.
Kemu 1 is part of the story of Pena, a cat: a sonic world of awakenings, early spring and its first subtle signs of return.
The work brings together a Pena's purring, accordion, jaw harp, humming and the gentle tapping of a box. These sounds form an intimate, shifting atmosphere in which something dormant begins to stir.

Presentation
Kemu 1 is intended to be experienced through speakers, allowing the sound to occupy and interact with the surrounding space. Headphones may be used for private listening, but are not the preferred mode of presentation.
Edition and delivery
The work is issued in an edition of 2, with 1 Artist's Proof.
Following purchase, the purchaser receives access to a private download link containing high-quality WAV and MP3 files. The same files are also supplied on a USB drive, sent by post together with a numbered certificate of authenticity signed by the artist.
Presentation rights and copyright
The purchase includes a non-exclusive, perpetual right for the owner to present the work privately and publicly as part of their collection, including in gallery, museum and institutional exhibitions. The owner may lend the work for exhibition and authorise the presenting venue to play the work for the duration of that exhibition.
The owner is kindly requested to inform the artist directly of public presentations whenever reasonably possible.
All copyright and intellectual-property rights remain with the artist. The work may not be copied, edited, remixed, distributed, streamed, uploaded online, broadcast, synchronised with moving image, or used in advertising, promotional content or commercial campaigns without the artist's prior written permission.
