Chinese Restaurant transparent is a unique wall sculpture in which clusters of hand-finished flowers emerge from the wall as if caught mid-breath. 3D-printed in clear natural PLA filament, each petal is hand-painted with translucent airbrush lacquers before being sealed in a thick layer of polyester resin mixed with wax — leaving the surface intentionally soft and hazy, as if seen through frosted glass.
The work belongs to Teemu Salonen's ongoing Chinese Restaurant series, a meditation on ornament, memory, and the charged aesthetics of interior spaces. Each piece in the series is singular and never repeated.
Chinese Restaurant transparent is conceived as both sculpture and light source — a presence that transforms with the hour and mood. The integrated Philips Hue E14 bulb allows full colour and brightness control via the Hue app, casting warm shadows at dusk or cool stillness in daylight.
The sculpture operates directly on standard EU power outlets. For use in the USA, the bulb can be replaced with a compatible E14 bulb suited to 110–120V networks.
